Academic Advising

 Academic Advising is a collaboration between advisors and students; the advisor provides information and resources for the student's academic, professional, and social development.

NMT's strength is that students are advised by faculty in their major. 的 relationship that develops between the faculty advisor and student can be academically and professionally 有益的.

Process for new (incoming) undergraduate students

的 NMT Registrar handles all of the preliminaries to academic 建议, and works with Department Chairs to connect new, incoming students to 新学生,顾问.    Note that the latter are not necessarily the student's permanent advisor. 

 If you are a new student and have any questions or concerns about the 建议 process, please contact our Registrar's Office (registrar@honornm.com; 575-835-5133).

Process for current students

的 student should "meet" (via Zoom, a phone call, or email exchange) with their permanent advisor to discuss their course schedule for the following semester.  Once the advisor approves the student's schedule the student will receive a code (APIN) from the advisor that will allow them to complete their registration online.

 

• Know degree requirements, relevant school 政策, and deadlines.
• Be open to developing and clarifying academic and professional goals.
• 研究 university programs and courses.
• Regularly consult faculty advisor and degree audit systems.
• Use campus academic, social, and professional resources.
• Be respectful: be on time and prepared for scheduled meetings.

• Uphold the integrity and value of the degree by maintaining University standards and 政策.
• Listen carefully and respect the student’s questions, concerns, and problems.
• Collaborate with the student to develop academic and personal goals.
• Communicate core, major, and minor degree requirements.
• Provide appropriate referrals and resources.
• Say “no” when that’s the appropriate answer.

的 Office for the Associate Dean for Student Success provides help with academic success planning, early intervention for students having academic difficulties, and advises all dual credit and special undergraduate students.
